BUGONIA - Official Trailer Released

Cinelab are delighted to have supported Yorgos Lanthimos’s new feature Bugonia, which reunites the director with cinematographer Robbie Ryan BSC ISC. The film, starring Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone, has premiered at Venice, will screen at the upcoming London Film Festival, and will open in cinemas this November through Focus Features and Element Pictures.

Bugonia tells the story of two conspiracy-obsessed men who kidnap a powerful CEO, convinced she’s an alien plotting humanity’s destruction - a darkly comic fable that sits squarely in Lanthimos’s off-kilter world.

Of particular note for us, Bugonia was shot on 35 mm 8-perf VistaVision film - a rarely used horizontal format that delivers a wider frame, exquisite resolution, and striking depth of field. Under Robbie Ryan’s lens, the result is a richly cinematic aesthetic that perfectly complements the film’s unsettling mix of absurdity and precision.

At Cinelab Film & Digital, we were proud to handle processing and scanning of the original VistaVision negatives. Our lab teams - led by our Director of Film Lab Operations Andy Hudson, and Cinelab’s Head of Scanning & Grading Paul Dean - worked closely with production to ensure every frame retained the fine grain, colour depth, and scale that define the format.

It’s always exciting to see film used in such an ambitious, contemporary way - and Bugonia is a stunning example of why the medium continues to inspire directors and cinematographers alike.
