CLARISSA: trailer released for the Esiri brothers’ Lagos-set Virginia Woolf adaptation, shot on 35mm

Clarissa is screening this month at the BFI London Film Festival, as Neon releases the trailer for Arie and Chuko Esiri’s reimagining of Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway.
Directed by twin filmmakers Arie and Chuko Esiri and shot entirely on 35mm 3-perf by cinematographer Jonathan Bloom, it moves Woolf’s novel to contemporary Lagos.
Sophie Okonedo plays Clarissa, a society woman preparing to host a party at which she meets once-intimate friends from her youth, alongside India Amarteifio, David Oyelowo, Ayo Edebiri and Toheeb Jimoh.
Filmed across Lagos and Delta State, Nigeria, the film negative was flown to Cinelab for processing, 4K scanning and film dailies, including the dailies grade by Cinelab’s Paul Dean – more than 100,000 feet of 35mm in all. Cinelab also delivered the film’s VFX pulls through our Fluent service.
Clarissa premiered in Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes in May, and Neon will release it in select US cinemas on 11 December.
