Film Scanning
Film Scanning
Cinelab operates a suite of professional film scanners, supported by an expert team of film technicians. Whether you need a fast, cost-effective scan for a commercial shoot or the highest-resolution archival transfer, we'll match the right scanner to your project.
Deliverables range from HD viewing copies to 4K and 6K pin-registered scans, graded or ungraded, across 8mm, 16mm, 35mm and 65mm formats.
SCANITY HDR
The Scanity HDR is our workhorse scanner for high-throughput production work. It has a rolling film gate, which moves with the film rather than against it - this eliminates mechanical instability, producing sharp, consistent results edge-to-edge.
At up to 15fps at 4K, it's the only scanner realistically fast enough to handle 4K rushes in a dailies pipeline. It can also scan at high-speed to create cost-effective low-resolution viewing copies - useful when you need to assess archive material before committing to a full scan.
Formats: 8mm, 16mm, 35mm
Resolution: Up to 4K 16-bit
Standard Delivery: Full frame, uncompressed, ungraded 2K 10-bit Log DPX
Options: 16-bit HDR, infrared
ARRISCAN
The Arriscan is the choice for work where image quality is paramount. Unlike line-array scanners, it physically pin-registers each frame - engaging pins into the film's sprocket holes to clamp it precisely over a full-frame 6K CMOS sensor. The result is exceptional stability and sharpness, particularly with negative material.
Its throughput is slower by design (4fps at 2K, 1fps at 4K), making it best suited to select-take scans, VFX pulls, or any workflow where image fidelity outweighs speed.
Formats: 16mm, 35mm
Resolution: 2K, 4K, 6K LOG
Standard Delivery: Full frame, uncompressed, ungraded LOG DPX
Options: Double Flash HDR, Digital ICE (real-time infrared dust concealment)
65mm & Large Format Scanning
Cinelab can facilitate 65mm large format scanning, covering formats including 5-perf 65mm and 15-perf IMAX.
Large format scanning is available by arrangement. Get in touch to discuss your project and requirements.
