21 creative companies took part in the straight 8 industry shootout 2022.
The challenge; to tell a story in a two and half minute film, recorded on just one roll of super 8mm film with all editing happening in-camera. The films are processed and scanned at Cinelab but there is no post production allowed and an original soundtrack needs to be provided ‘blind’.
None of the filmmakers involved got to see their final work until all the films are played together at a premiere screening at the Cinema Les Arcades in Cannes on 24 June, during the Cannes Lions festival of creativity.
All films are shown in their entirety, however they come out - this is not a creative challenge for the faint-hearted.
Immediately after the films play the audience and the entered companies vote for their top three, (excluding their own). Gold, silver and bronze trophies are then dully awarded at the premiere and donations are made on behalf of the winners to their chosen charities.
