Crafted by Isaiah Saxon, Lensed by Evan Prosofsky, and Finished with Cinelab’s DFD Process

Now showing in cinemas, The Legend of Ochi marks the feature debut of writer/director Isaiah Saxon. Starring Helena Zengel, Finn Wolfhard, Emily Watson, and Willem Dafoe, the film follows Yuri, a shy farm girl from the island of Carpathia, who sets off on a quest to return a wounded baby ochi, one of the mysterious creatures she was raised to fear..

Shot digitally by cinematographer Evan Prosofsky, the film was given its distinctive, tactile look through Cinelab’s Digital-Film-Digital (DFD) process. This involves transferring digital footage to Kodak film stock, processing it photochemically, and scanning it back to digital. The result is a rich film grain and authentic texture that brings Saxon’s mythic world to life.

The Legend of Ochi is a captivating blend of visual poetry and fantasy realism, made all the more immersive through the power of hybrid filmmaking.
