THE WOMAN IN CABIN 10 Sets Sail on Netflix - with Digital Dailies By Cinelab

The Woman in Cabin 10, directed by Simon Stone (The Dig, The Daughter) and shot by acclaimed cinematographer Ben Davis BSC (The Banshees of Inisherin, Captain Marvel), is now streaming on Netflix. The gripping psychological thriller, based on the bestselling novel by Ruth Ware, draws audiences into an atmosphere of unease and uncertainty aboard a luxury cruise ship - where nothing is quite as it seems.

Cinelab Film & Digital provided digital dailies, dailies colour, HDR grade review, and a custom ACES 2.0 workflow, working closely with Ben Davis to preserve the film’s visual intent from set through post-production.

The project saw Cinelab’s dailies workflow and colour teams, led by Head of Workflow Christy Kail, Dailies Colourist Darren Rae, Dailies Producer Rosie Goodwin, and Dailies Supervisor Fabio Cachucho, collaborating directly with Ben Davis and the production team to manage a complex HDR dailies review pipeline. This included the use of a custom beta implementation of ACES 2.0, an advanced colour management framework that improves translation between HDR and SDR.

“ACES 2.0 improves output transforms and removes some of the “Aces look” issues,” explains Christy Kail, Workflow Supervisor at Cinelab. “For The Woman in Cabin 10, we worked with Netflix to implement a custom beta version that gave improved HDR-to-SDR mapping. Allowing dailies to be graded in HDR but with editorial still working in SDR, while maintaining accuracy and consistency across every stage of the production.”
