The final trailer for Digger lands in VistaVision, processed and scanned at Cinelab
Warner Bros. released the final trailer for Digger, ahead of the Iñárritu and Cruise's attendance of the UK premiere.
Digger reunites director Alejandro G. Iñárritu with cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, the team behind Birdman and The Revenant, in their first collaboration with Tom Cruise. The film was shot principally on VistaVision, alongside 35mm 4-perf cinematography, with Cinelab handling film processing and high resolution scanning throughout the production.
VistaVision runs 35mm film horizontally through the camera rather than vertically, exposing eight film perforations per frame instead of the standard four. The larger negative allows for the capture of greater, finer detail, resulting in a sharper image. Introduced by Paramount in the 1950s for films including Vertigo and North by Northwest, the format has found a new audience in recent years through titles like The Brutalist and One Battle After Another.
Cruise has spoken about watching Lubezki work and the level of cinematic craft involved in the production, saying “it’s a beautiful, very rich, dynamic looking film”, noting, "the level of detail, the skill, the layers of making this film," adding that neither he nor Iñárritu had made anything quite like it before.
Digger opens in UK cinemas 2 October.
